The Romanian Academy began in Piatra Neamț, where Ștefan's passion for teaching Romanian language and culture first took shape. Today, he is based in Bucharest and runs a fully online academy, helping students worldwide master Romanian through personalised lessons, group classes and engaging video content.

What qualifications and experience do you have as a Romanian tutor?
I started tutoring Romanian online in May 2020 during the pandemic and have not had a break ever since. In April 2025 I was accredited the EUROLTA certification for teaching Romanian as a second language. I was among the first 4 people to ever receive this qualification.

Since I started in May 2020.
Why did you start The Romanian Academy?
Because I love languages, storytelling and computers, so I decided to put all of them together!
Are you a native Romanian speaker?
Yes. Born and raised in Piatra-Neamț.
What's the difference between live group courses, 1-on-1 tutoring, and self-paced materials?
The live group courses is where you get a level's worth of content in 8 weeks in a structured, interactive way.
The 1-on-1 tutoring is where all your questions are answered and where we tackle together any subject from different perspectives.
The materials are great if you like being self-taught. You can guide yourself through your journey using the curriculum here.
How do I know which service is right for me?
There is no right or wrong, but a combination of the 3, plus real-life practice, is necessary to fully complete a level. It mainly depends on your time and commitment.

What is included in the live level courses (A1-B2)?
A rough overview of what will be included can be found here. In addition, you will be practicing a thematic vocabulary each week and plenty of listening, reading, writing and speaking activities.
How are the 32-hour courses structured across 8 weeks?
There are 4 hours every week, split into 2 classes of 2 hours each.
What if I miss a course class session?
You will be able to rewatch the recording. All courses are recorded.
Do you offer recordings of live courses?
Yes, and are available for download a month after the course completion.
What's the maximum class size, and why keep groups small?
The maximum class size is 8 students. We do that to ensure everybody gets time to get involved and their questions answered.
What types of materials are included in each Patreon tier?
Level Tiers - Grammar handouts, grammar exercises, grammar recorded bonus classes, reading and listening assignments specific to each level.

What topics can we cover in 1-on-1 lessons?
It really depends on your goals and current level. We will evaluate those and agree together on what we cover in a class.
What's the difference between conversation practice and comprehensive tutoring?
In a conversation class we mainly talk in Romanian, and I occasionally correct you. However, I will not go and explain in-depth anything grammar related.
In a comprehensive tutoring you get a balanced quantity of each type of practice suited to your level.
How does the weekly speaking club work?
You show up and we chat about a chosen topic by you or me. Levels may vary but everybody gets speaking time!
